Amelia, a Flatwoods native, and Brandon, a Glen Daniel native, took a chemistry course together at the University of Charleston.

They noticed each other thanks to a Chemistry Idol competition hosted by their professor. However, they didn’t bump into each other again until the beginning of the next semester at the university’s glow party, and they made that night their unofficial first date.
Years later, Brandon proposed on a Christmas morning. He made his own Russian nesting present, where each box contained a part of a poem. The last poem was unfinished. That’s when Amelia looked at Brandon, who was down on one knee with the ring, to finish the poem.
Because it was a special place for them, the couple got married at the University of Charleston. The wedding had a 1920s theme. The bride wore a vintage-style, ivory Sottero and Midgley wedding gown covered in rhinestones and pearls. The bridesmaids wore matching pink and purple Pisarro Nights gowns. The groom wore a tan Allure Men suit and vest. One of the couple’s favorite moments was having their first look at The Brass Pineapple in Charleston. With its Jazz-age essence, it was the perfect location to share their memorable moment.
The ceremony was held at the Erma Byrd Art Gallery, and the bride was escorted by her father while walking to “A Thousand Years” by The Piano Guys. At the reception, the couple shared their first dance to Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect.” The four-tiered wedding cake also contained elements of the ’20s era: the bottom layer had a white feathered look, and the other layers consisted of gold pearls, lace, and a pearl brooch.
After a night of dancing, guests left the reception with lemon-flavored ’20s-themed cookies. The couple honeymooned in Cancun, Mexico, and they now live in Lester.
