This wedding was especially unique and planned from the heart, since the planner was none other than the bride herself.
Ashley and Nathan had mutual friends for years, but they didn’t officially meet until they were both at a West Virginia Power baseball game in 2013. After Ashley’s daughter picked Nathan out of the group and started playfully picking on him, the two introduced themselves. That night Nathan, a general laborer from Teays Valley, got in touch with Ashley, a travel agent, to ask her out. Two weeks later, she agreed.
Nathan proposed the next summer during their first family vacation together at the beach. During the trip, Ashely and her daughter were having their photographs taken together on the beach. During their photoshoot, Ashley had no idea that Nathan was behind them during their last few photos. Once she was done, she had turned around, and saw him down on one knee, asking for her hand in marriage.
They were married at Herot Hall Farms on a miraculously bright and clear summer afternoon that followed a rainy morning. The bride wore a strapless ball gown with a sweetheart neckline and a floral lace appliqué, and the groom opted for a gray vest and pants with a festive pink paisley tie. Bridesmaids wore coral lace cocktail dresses with aqua blue necklaces, and the groomsmen wore aqua ties. The flowers were cheery and bright, with orange and pink garden roses, billy balls, and sea holly. The decor was filled with personal touches. Ashley spent months collecting vintage props that would contribute to the wedding’s travel theme. She also made paper flowers to fill out the decor as well as all of the signs for the event.
The three-tier wedding cake was covered in white icing and bright flowers, and the groom’s cake was in the shape of the Marshall University logo. Guests played corn-hole with boards made especially for the occasion and danced well into the night. Each guest left with a Mason jar of strawberry jam made by the bride’s mother, with the attached message of “Jam packed with love” as well as their names and wedding date. The couple honeymooned in Cancun, Mexico.
