It took just over a year of dating for huntington native tom to pop the question to his girlfriend Chelsea over a romantic dinner at one of the couple’s favorite restaurants. Tom made previous arrangements for their families to join them at the restaurant so they would be there to celebrate the special occasion.
The couple soon started planning their dream wedding. Neither of them grew up in Cool Ridge, but the moment they walked into the Weathered Ground Brewery in town, they knew it was the perfect place for their wedding.
Escorted by her father, Kevin Slack, the bride, originally from Charleston, wore a St. Patrick Primrose gown with a tiered cathedrallength veil and carried a bouquet of greenery and white flowers. Bridesmaids wore various styles of dresses in taupe, and the groom and his groomsmen wore navy blue suits with taupe neckties.
Chelsea met Tom at the altar, where they exchanged nontraditional vows before leaving the ceremony under a shower of confetti to “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour while the couple and their wedding party took photographs. Dinner included salad, chicken and steak kebabs, locally grown vegetables, rice, and potatoes.
The wedding cake included flavorful layers of Nutella, Heath bar, and strawberry. The couple left the reception under a sparkler send-off.
After a honeymoon on the California coast including stops in Monterey, Big Sur, Carmel, and San Francisco, Chelsea and Tom returned home to South Charleston, where she works in health care administration, and he works as an attorney and a certified public accountant.
